Instant Vortex Pro Air Fryer OvenOh No! I have succumbed to a yet another fad! I've just bought an Instant Vortex Pro Air Fryer Oven. Biggest problem so far: It comes with a sticker on the glass of the door warning about not leaving flammable things near the oven (things like, for example, paper warning stickers with gummy backing). It took 45 minutes and every solvent I could find to get the $#@! sticker and gummy residue off the door. It works pretty well after I got the sticker off. I made some chicken legs and was able to get six legs (the amount that came in the package) in one tray (alternating direction so they took minimum space). Lining the drip pan with foil (as suggested) is indeed a terrific idea as there was lots of drippage of the marinade and grease. I didn't have any problem cleaning the non-stick tray after cooking the chicken. The accessory I want now is something like a pizza peel designed to slide the hot tray out of the oven while keeping drips off the door (and the floor). I used a quarter sized sheet pan to sort of achieve that effect, but something that was really the right size would work better. I can store the drip pan and trays in the oven when not using it. Haven't figured out where to store the bits of rotisserie stuff yet. The rotisserie does indeed work well for cooking things like french fries and tater tots, but it accumulates baked on grease and is near impossible to clean. Boiling it in a baking soda solution then scrubbing furiously with brushes that can reach the bottom of the rotisserie eventually got most of it off. I'll have to try spraying it with oil the next time to see if it winds up easier to clean. I've got an air fryer section in my recipes page with the things I've cooked so far. It is heavy on store bought frozen stuff, the lemon garlic chicken was probably the best of the things I've made from scratch so far. In theory I can cook a whole chicken on the rotisserie, but I'm not likely to try that anytime soon (especially since I can buy whole rotisserie chickens at the store already cooked). |
