Customizable Spice HoldersThis is thing 4573833 on thingiverse. Inspired by thing 2763553, but designed from scratch in openscad, this is my collection of spice holders for mounting in places like kitchen cabinet doors. Here's the finished installation, the rest of this web page is just babbling about how I got here: A standard size cleat can be screwed to the door, and all the different size spice holders slide over the identical cleats: The complete_cleat module creates the cleats. (I had to adjust the screw hole a couple of times to get it big enough once the screws came in and I could see they didn't sit flush). The round_bottle module prints a holder customized for the diameter, height, and front opening height. This one for a bottle of Garam Masala (I know, I should grind it myself :-). The opening in the bottom is massively useful: It helps avoid the print curling up, it allows you to brush any dust or crumbs out of the holder, and it lets you push the bottle up from the bottom if you made the holder a bit tight. (Also cuts down on the amount of filament used to print it.) Here you see how it slides over the cleat: And here is how the bottle of spice fits: Here is a different size holder for a different bottle: The collection grows: I got ambitious and added rounded corners on the front opening. Printing two at once worked fine. Now I've implemented a square_bottle module: The 1/2 inch screws I ordered (short enough not to poke through the front of the cabinet door) came in, so now I can start mounting these things. This shows the last cleat in place with nothing on it yet: This isn't all the spices I have, mind you, just the overflow from the wall mounted spice rack that filled up :-).
