Saw Blade StorageDoing all this work on the saw, I ought to actually make something, so here is a box for saw blade storage. First I cut a bunch of 11 by 11 inch (more or less) pieces of 1/8 inch hardboard, then proceeded to cut circles out of the center of half of them where the blade will go. Here's the circle cutting jig and crappy old router: Tape it down so the outer part (which is all I want) doesn't shift while routing: It works well enough to route a groove all the way through the hardboard (using a couple of passes): Remove the inner circle and stash in scrap pile: Now the outer shape gets glued to another piece of hardboard. Here's the first two I made to test the process (one for a 10 inch blade, one for a 7 1/4 inch circular saw blade): Got the rest of the blade holders glued up and drilled a one inch hole in the center so I can poke my finger through and lift the blade by the arbor hole (and avoid the pointy teeth :-): I've also cut the grooves in the sides which seem to work well enough in testing: The holders are 11 inches, and I made the sides 10 1/2 inches so the holder will stick out in front to make it easier to grab. I also cut a couple of extra slots in case I need to expand someday. Cut more plywood for the top, bottom, and back, apply glue and wood screws, do a little sanding, and the world's klunkiest box is finished: No woodworking mastery on display, but it does hold the blades. I also put a couple of holes in the front of each of the blade holders, more to mark the front than anything, but they may make grabbing them easier. |
