The Nexus 4 Wireless Charger I got for my new Nexus 7 works really well when the Nexus is not in the case. When it is in the case, it sort of works, but usually stops charging before it hits 100% and takes longer to charge even when it does work. That led me to invent this modification for my Moko case:
The other great thing about this mod is that there is almost no chance the Nexus will slip off the charger since the charger fits inside the nice rim of the hole. I used an adjustable hole saw, a drill press, and some particle board clamped over the case while (very slowly) drilling out the 3 inch hole. Cleaned up some of the frayed edges with a box cutter. By the way, in case anyone is interested, the case itself appears to have plastic inside (I was actually expecting cardboard of some kind, so plastic kind of impressed me). I've now added a new frill: A 3D printed plastic ring to block the annoying LEDs so I can sleep in the same room while charging the Nexus. |
