Spool DrawerFor fun, I printed all the parts to make an old style Octave filament spool into parts drawers for all my M6 nuts and bolts: I remixed this from Vertical Filament Spool Parts Drawer and Vertical Filament Spool Parts Drawer Stand. My remix is on thingiverse at Vertical Spool Drawer and Stand Remix. Some challenges this old spool presented: The sides turn out not to be flat, they are actually very shallow cones, so I had to add a thin ring out near the edge for the drawer guides to sit on so the guides could be flat even if the sides of the spool were not. Also, the spool has a fairly large bead around the edge, so I added an extra "step" to the center of the stand to hold it out from the spool a bit so the stand would clear the edge. The other reason for the remix was to separate all the parts into openscad modules so I could pick one at a time to create an stl file. While I was at it, I rearranged the code to move the user variables and common code to separate files so I could make parts for different size spools without having to modify the common file. This particular spool uses 110mm lengths of 1/4-20 allthread to bolt the stands together. I also glued some cork to the bottom of the stand so it wouldn't slide around. The labels were laser printed, then stuck to double sided gorilla tape, cut to size, and stuck to the drawers (hopefully this combination is very durable and the labels won't peel off on me). Possibly I should have told it the center was slightly larger than the number I measured because there is a slight gap between the drawers on either side of the split in the guides, but it isn't big enough for anything to fall out of. |
