Nozzle CleanersVarious versions of the nozzle cleaner evolved with experience, here is the collection. Nozzle Cleaner Version 1I printed the first piece on Jiggit itself to be used to enhance Jiggit. A clip on gadget to hold a pipe cleaner to run the nozzle through at the start of a print to remove filament ooze: I have my doubts how well this early design will work. I haven't written the start code yet, but running the nozzle through it manually doesn't make it look promising. I suspect this idea will evolve considerably before it is finalized. Nozzle Cleaner Version 2Back to the nozzle cleaner. This new piece is radically redesigned and solid as a rock: Most of the pipe cleaner now runs through channels printed internally in the part (and out the bottom), and it is secured on the rail with M3 bolts and lock nuts clamping it down. I still haven't written the new startup code, but running the nozzle through it manually seemed to work perfectly. Wrote some new startup code, and did a test print, and it works like a champ: You can see the bit of filament ooze caught in the pipe cleaner, and the test print didn't have any blobs of ooze in the skirt which always seemed to happen before this gadget was installed. One actual enhancement printed on Jiggit! Nozzle Cleaner Version 3 (and final?)Yet another nozzle cleaner :-). The last one worked great, but the cooling fan I'm adding runs into it. Need yet another nozzle cleaner design, this one to stay completely out of the way of everything except the nozzle by wrapping around the bottom of the rail, and the pipe cleaner can be poked up through it to get to the nozzle. Didn't print very well (especially with no cooling fan) at the extreme overhang, but it cleaned up plenty good enough to hold a pipe cleaner:
And here it has a pipe cleaner installed: I need to fool with how the pipe cleaner is installed a bit, but it should work and stay out of the way of the fan on the carriage. |
