Laundry CartI got a nice new Maytag front loading washer and dryer, with the storage drawer to sit on which brings the doors to a convenient height. Unfortunately, the convenient height isn't convenient for the laundry basket which either goes on the floor so you have to bend over no matter what height the doors are, or goes on top so you have to reach too high to pull things out of the basket. And, of course, the farther the handfuls of laundry have to travel, the more likely a sock or three will escape. With free time during the holidays, I tackled this earth shattering problem by looking around the garage and finding an old recycling bin (they gave us new ones, but didn't take the old ones away) and some plywood scraps. A quick trip to Home Depot got me Gorilla glue and casters, and I turned out this masterpiece: Now I can shovel things in and out of the machines without bending over or giving small items a chance to escape, and I can wheel the wet laundry over to the dryer to shovel it in there. P.S. I have no idea what technological magic Maytag uses to spin things in the washer at high speed without the machine bouncing up and down, but it is really very smooth and quiet while still getting most of the water out of the laundry. |
