Black Beans and Rice

Taste: bland.

Cleanup: Dead simple.

Ingredients: All available at Publix

I used this Black Beans and Rice recipe.

Once again substituting garlic powder for garlic cloves. Seems a little on the bland side, but I did forget to squeeze in the lime. I'll try to remember to do that in the next serving I get. Also, I accidentally bought sliced onions rather than diced ones (another convenience - avoid doing my own dicing). I suspect they didn't work as well to distribute the onion flavor.

Lime didn't really improve the blandness in my next serving.

I tried adding mustard to relieve the bland for another serving and it wasn't too bad, but some other spice would probably be better :-).

Probably a big improvement would be using vegatable stock instead of plain water in the original recipe.

Gah! Obviously didn't pick through the beans well enough. Eating a serving and wound up with a rock (one that was small and black and almost exactly the same size and shape as a black bean).

Makes me wonder about devising some sort of elutriation gadget with water running up a tube fast enough to carry beans, but not fast enough to carry rocks :-). Get them rinsed and remove the rocks at the same time.
